Question Number: 16022

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 7/13/2007

RE: Select Under 17

Alex of Kalamazoo, USA asks...

In Michigan do you have to show cards to coachs? The reason I ask is because in a match just this season a told a champions league U11 coach to leave for inapporpriat language and he said he didn't have to leave because I didn't show a card. In the end I had to terminate the match because of this coach.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Maybe yes, maybe no. There was a memo that went out from the State Youth Referee Administrator. It stated this provision (showing cards to coaches) was passed at the State Annual General Meeting. I have since heard from my assignor that maybe the memo had been rescinded. And the memo is nowhere to be found.

I'll send the SYRA an email tonight and see if I get a definitive answer.

Update - Received from State Youth Referee Administrator:

"In all YOUTH Games in Michigan Coaches are to be shown cards (yellow and Red) and reported on game reports with explanation. The game reports are to be sent to proper authority (usually the league). The league will then deal with the issue."
