Question Number: 16286

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 8/12/2007

RE: Competitive Other

Steve of Vero Beach, FL USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 16258

Thank you for confirming what I thought was correct [16258]. I would not teach this tactic because I think it violates the Spirit of the Game, but as a ref, I wanted the clarification because I have seen similar instances. You guys always give the real world view and that is what I love about this site.

Thanks again

We guys thanks you for the kind words. I am sure our gals do as well! ;o) When you play, coach, parent, spectate and referee, chances are you get a feel for all points of view!
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

I love to work with coaches who stretch my knowledge and management. I had the honor to attend a USYS sponsored coach/referee seminar up in Dallas several years ago, and it was an eye-opening experience for all of us. It was so interesting to find out what the coaches teach and why, and to hear their amazement at why some of those very tactics were whistled by (intelligent) referees. Lots of learning all the way around. I feel much the same way about this site. Even though I am by nature a smart ass, there is still no such thing as a dumb question - all we need is perspective. Thanks for a day brightner.
