Question Number: 16332League Specific 8/16/2007RE: Competitive Under 11 Andrea Kowalski of Belle Mead, NJ USA asks...I have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer!
1) How many referees are there in an official FIFA World Cup game?
2) Who won the first trophy of the season in Holland? What was the name of the trophy?
Thank you! Andrea Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol 1) In the most recent World Cup, there were 5 officials assigned to each game. The center referee, 2 assistant referees, the 4th official, and new for 2006 a reserve official who only was called to duty if an assistant referee had to leave the game. I don't think any of them had anything to do in any of the games except watch. The 4th official normally has many duties involving the subs and benches, and was the one who saw the Zidane head-butting incident.
2) No idea. We answer questions about the Laws of the Game, not statistics.
