Question Number: 16444Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 8/26/2007RE: Rec Under 13 Tristan of MV, CA Placer asks...When the goalie picks up a ball with his hands and attempts to kick it down the field, can you jump in front of him and block the ball?
Is there a minimum distance to the goalie? ...even if he runs towards an opposing player as he kicks?
Thank you Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller No you cannot. There is no min distance, but a defender cannot unfairly impede or distract the keeper.

View Referee Ben Mueller profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol As an opponent, you cannot get in the goalkeeper's way to hinder her distributing the ball. But if you have an established position, you don't have to get out of the keeper's way. That's why we give the keeper 6 seconds to hold the ball - so she can move to an opportune position to throw or kick it.
