Question Number: 16482

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 8/29/2007

RE: REC Under 14

Timothy Lamont of Warren, Oh USA asks...

A shot that a Defender(Not the Goalie) has deflected but the power of the Kick propelled it INTO the Goal. Is it a Goal ...or a Penalty Shot ??

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Sorry, I have to answer this question with another. What is better for a side, a free kick, a penalty kick or a goal already scored?

Hmmmm...

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

How could it be a penalty kick? No referee in his right mind is going to pull a goal out and give a PK instead, except in the most unusual of circumstances. If the attacker is the one who commits an offense, then yes, pull it out, but otherwise, the referee will apply advantage to any offense committed by the defender and award the goal. Much stiffer penalty to give the goal than the PK, yes?
