Question Number: 16515

League Specific 9/1/2007

RE: Competative Adult

Denis Doyle of Melbourne, Vic Australia asks...

What happens at the end of a season when 2 teams have the same points and the same goal difference? Do they get equal places on the ladder or are they seperated in some other way?

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

The league will have to look at their tie-breaking methods that should be listed in their by-laws. That should say how to deal with it.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

I tend to think after goal differential would be goals for then goals against as tie breakers. In the end the league must have provided some way to establish table listings for all squads.

The league decides all of this. Usually they have a number of tiebreakers until a winner can be determined.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Some leagues may not have any tiebreakers at all, and will award co-champion trophies.
