View Referee Ben Mueller profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer The player is cautioned. This is not an option, though it does require a certain amount of courage from the referee. There is no warning, there is no recourse, there is no debate, the player interfering with a throw-in is cautioned and shown the yellow card. End of story. The throw-in is retaken after the caution.
Another side of this entered the Laws a few years ago, no opponent may approach within 2 M of the thrower. Those that do are cautioned and shown the yellow card for failing to respect the required distance at the taking of a corner kick or a free kick or a throw-in.
