Question Number: 16588League Specific 9/7/2007RE: competive College Bernard Pretorius of Cape Town, South Africa asks...If a ref stops the game 10 minutes before full time because of bad light does this game have to be replayed. Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol That will depend on the rules of the competition. This game has been terminated (not abandoned, there's a slight but real difference) and FIFA/IFAB leaves all decisions on terminated games to the competition authority. The league may decide the game is complete as-is, may call for a replay, or may even restart the game at the point it was stopped - in effect, call the stoppage a very long suspension of the game.

View Referee Gary Voshol profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer This should not happen because when starting late the referee should plan ahead for these "unknowns". A glance at most newspapers in the world will yield a weather section or page. There we find the times of sunrise and sunset. Just do the math and agree with both sides how long the periods of play will have to be so the light doesn't fail. Then the match will end at the agreed upon full time and not have to be worried about.
