RE: Rookie Under 14

Archiebald of Saarbracken, Germany Germany asks...

Hi.

Are there any adviseable books about refereeing? I've heard about a benchmark called "How to Referee".

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Guten Tag! The difficulty about Football books is they don't sell all that well so finding them in stores is difficult. You might want to check out one by Bob Evans and Ed Bellion. A quick Internet search will yield where it may be found.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney

Absolutely one of the best books is the "For the Good of the Game" which Ref Fleischer notes above. Another is "Fair or Foul" by Harris and Harris (although this one will have out of date information on the Laws of the Game, unless it has been updated since 1995). Lastly, there is the "Soccer Officials Guidebook" by Schwartz. Oh, and don't forget "The Laws of the Game" issued yearly by FIFA, with a very useful addendum this year for referees on the "how to's". Happy reading!
