Question Number: 16592

Law 13 - Free Kicks 9/8/2007

RE: Under 8

dave of cumberland, ME USA asks...

difference between a direct free kick and an indirect free kick?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Please, please, please, tell me you are just a volunteer who helps out reffing the U-littles. Not a USSF-certified referee. Because this is a very basic concept that is taught in all referee classes. Go back and read Law 13, which explains the difference - it has to do with when a goal may be scored.

If you are a certified referee, you are hereby sentenced to write lines. Write 25 copies of Law 13 before you are allowed to accept any more assignments. Then mail the 25 copies, along with a cover letter explaining that you had not learned this in your class, to the State Director of Referee Instruction. Either your instructor is sorely deficient, or you weren't paying attention in class.

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

Direct kick can be kicked directly into other team's goal. Inirect must first touch another player besides kicker.
