Question Number: 16626Law 11 - Offside 9/10/2007RE: travel Under 11 tzone of glastonbury, usa asks...If a player is in a breakaway, shoots, and the goalie knocks the ball down (no defenders are near). The player then shoots the rebound in the goal. Is that an offsides? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer An attacker nearer his opponent's goal line than the last but one opponent AND the ball is in an offside position. You say the ball is between him and the goal line. A player in an offside position is only penalised if at the moment the ball is touched or played by one of his team. You say he was the last of his side to touch the ball.
There can be NO offside infraction on this series of events because a team mate has not touched the ball and he is not in an offside position.
Regards,
