Question Number: 16671Law 13 - Free Kicks 9/13/2007RE: select Under 15 david b mendoza of Sacramento, california usa asks...a foul is commited 10 yrds. out side the 18 a wall is made 1 attacking is behind the wall in offside a direct kick is taken player in offside postion jumps and trys to head the ball but does not touch it because it is too high but a goal is scored is there offside in this play Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer The question should be did he interfere with play or did he interfere with an opponent. Reason, it is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
So, he didn't touch the ball, hence no interference in play. Did he cause opponents to miss the ball? No it was higher than them too.
Did he interfere with the vision of the goalkeeper who missed the ball entering his goal? Aha, this is possible! So, did he interfere? If so give offside. If not give the goal.
Regards,
