Question Number: 16674Law 13 - Free Kicks 9/13/2007RE: School Under 14 TS of Rockford, IL USA asks...Indirect Free Kick: LOTG state that the ball must be touched by another player before a goal can be awarded.
Game situation - Indirect free kick - Ball is kicked high up in the air above everyones head and towards the goal. The keeper foolishly tries to catch the ball, mishandles it and it goes into the net. Goal awarded. The law says that it must be touched by another player - the keeper is another player. In my opinion - goal counts - shame on the keeper for touching it. However, several players and parents complain that it should not have counted because none of the field players touched the ball. I am 99.9% sure that my opinion of a good goal is correct - please confirm... Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney I'm 100% certain your opinion is correct.

View Referee Michelle Maloney profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Interesting how the loudest complainers are the one's having the least knowledge. From an indirect free kick a goal may not be scored until the ball touches another player. The goalkeeper is another player. Count one goal. Restart play with a kick off to the side loosing the goal. Done deal.
