Question Number: 16777

Law 7 - Match Duration 9/18/2007

RE: All Under 19

Chelsea of Redmond, WA USA asks...

When I was going through Referee training they taught us a mathematical method of how to determine the length of youth games. I don't normally center for them but I have to and I have no idea how long U10-U14 games go for! Thanks

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI Chelsea,
a mathmatical method? Fifa allows youth matches to be adjusted as to duration, it does not state to those who do adjust it the minimum required only the maximum 2 x 45 minutes. U-10 to u-14 could be as short as 2 x 25 or as long as 2 x 45 your league should have those specs. Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

The math is simple: U-12 are 30 minutes. Add 5 minutes for the next age group going up until you reach 45. Subtract 5 minutes for each age group going down until you run our of age groups.

Regards,

Not all leagues follow the same schedule for game length. In our area, U12 rec games have 35 minute halves, while the select teams play 30 minutes.
