Question Number: 16831

Law 3 - Number of Players 9/22/2007

RE: Rec Under 12

Cathy of new egypt , nj ocean asks...

Our town is limited on the numbers of players each team has. My town has two teams of 5th/6th grade girls. Since my team only has 12 players, can I borrow players from the other township team and what are the rules on who I can borrow?? I know I can play with 8 on the field but this is game suicide since half my players just started playing. I know its about fun, however some girls have been playing for awhile and want a team and a game, not a circus. Of course, I always play my team first and only put in the subs (or other team players) as a relief. Please clear up the rules for me!!!

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

This is up to the league. There should be a policy on borrowing players listed somewhere in the league policies.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Your town may also has a written policy regarding where players live. If that policy prevents you from borrowing, so be it. It there is no policy enjoy yourself. Twenty years ago I used two cities and two youth leagues to assemble a boy's team. There was no program for competition at the level we played. Now each league has its own program and recruitment in that manner is impossible

Regards,
