Question Number: 16897

Law 3 - Number of Players 9/25/2007

RE: Amateur Adult

luis of valley center, ca USA asks...

i recently played a match that saw the oposition receive 5 red cards leaving them with only 6 players, below the minimum, who wins the game. the score was tied 2-2. i think we should win, isnt it considered a forfeit victory, or does the game remain tied

Answer provided by Referee Debbie Hoelscher

The referee does not determine the winner or loser of a match. They report to the league officials the time the game was terminated and the score at that time. That's all. The league decides what they will do from there.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

when one team went below 7 players, the game was over. AT this point all the referee may do is write a report to the proper authorities and let them decide what to do.

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

Who wins? I don't know. Apparently the match had to be abandoned due to an insufficient number of players. The referee reports it to the league who decides the outcome.
