RE: handicap physically and mentally Adult

kate palthey of grasse, france asks...

I have always coached younger teams under 9; this year I took over the clubs handicap team. 22 adults with a combination of physical and mental disabilities. I am looking for interesting warm up techniques for all these different levels. One girl for example is unable to hear or speak but can read my lips and hand signals... Others have downs or physical limitations.
Are there any web sites or information on how the American coaches train these courageous people for the special olympics for example. (In fact we will end up at the end of the year in Monaco with the Special Oympics events) Much thanks, Kate

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Kate,
you will find it great experience as the heart and desire of those who want to play will fill yours to overflowing! The special requirements to communicate with those who are deaf, altruistic or perhaps sightless or with impaired vision, the mental ability to receive and follow instructions are likely sourced through the mental health foundations within your own country.

The degree of fitness and tactical structure while a factor it is in the personal relationship you and the players will have in bonding as a team and enjoying all that the beautiful game has to offer.
Physical Education > Inclusive PE is a topic readily researched that has information on the requirements and needs of those affected with learning or physical challenges
