Question Number: 17108

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/5/2007

RE: club Under 15

Fred of Gibsonia, PA United States asks...

If a penalty kick is awarded, can the goalie who is about to be shot upon scream just before the player shoots the penalty shot? I heard that a yellow card would be in order. Can you point me to any particular rule number somewhere?

Thanks!

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

That rule is found under Law 12 under Misconduct in the Laws Of The Game. What the keeper would be guilty of is unsporting behavior. If the kick scored, all would be well. If not, caution, yellow card and retake the kick.

A better place to look is in Law 14, there's a paragraph entitled "The goalkeeper infringes the Laws of the Game"

If the PK kicker was to miss his shot because in the opinion of the referee the shout by the keeper was an unsporting action punishable as per law 12 and stated again in law 14 caution the keeper show the yellow card retake the pk!.
If the shot scores you could still show a card for the attempted misconduct but a warning that a second occurence will not be tolerated is not the worst decision a referee could choose as a course of action. Cheers
