Question Number: 17285Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/13/2007RE: REC Under 10 Ray of chicago, illinois US asks...Yesterday, at an outdoor soccer game, an offensive player shot the ball towards the opposing goal. The golie was unable to stop the ball and take possession of it. The offensive player then kicked the ball in....Was I correct in assesing the situation as the player socrong the goal, since the goalie never had possession of the ball? A great debate ensued amomgst coaches and parents Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer If the ball is bouncing around on the floor then it is there to play by any, except an offside player. If the goalkeeper has the ball stopped under a hand or finger then no one may play the ball. In your question you state the ball was under no one's control and found itself kicked under the crossbar and between the posts. That's a goal. Great debates happen all the time where parents, coaches and Football come together. Usually the loudest debater wins his point and he is usually the one with the least knowledge.
