Question Number: 17564Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/28/2007RE: Adult Matt of Olathe, Ks USA asks...Why do players raise their hands when a ball goes out of bounds? I understand when a foul has occured, but is it always necessary? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Players have weak bladders and are asking permission to use the washroom. ;o) They do this while asking for offside decisions a lot as well.
In truth it is a minor form of dissent as it says." REF the ball is out or you need to stop play!" Players need to play and allow the referee to officiate.
It might be ok to help out a single official at the grassroots if you make the hand raise call against your team along a touchline but we can hardly use a player's perspective if the opponent might disagree.
