Question Number: 17600

Law 3 - Number of Players 10/31/2007

RE: Rec Under 19

Sal Castillo of Brea, Ca USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 17135

I need a clarification on where the ball has to be placed in the goal box when an IDFK is awarded because the referee discovers, before the kick off, that team that just scored had 12 players when the goal was scored. Is the ball placed on the goal box line in front of the goal?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

It is placed just as it would be for a goal kick - anywhere inside the goal area, including on the line.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

Since the kick is coming OUT of the penalty area, the kicking team may place the ball anywhere inside the goal area. Were the referee to award an IFK to the attacking team for an offence that took place inside the goal area, the ball would come out to the six yard line.

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

In those and similar IFK situations, place it just like a goal kick.
