Question Number: 17786Law 7 - Match Duration 11/8/2007Aaron of Chicago, IL USA asks...After a goal has been scored, should the referee stop the clock/add extra time or should he just allow time to continue? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney If you are referring to stopping a clock, I have to assume this is either high school or college, as a USSF referee never "stops the clock" in a USSF affliated game. In high school or college the clock is stopped after a goal. In USSF games, the referee will add time only if there is delay beyond the time taken to retrieve the ball from the net and return it to the center mark, and get the teams back into their own halves.

However, in HS or College the clock MUST stop after every goal! So those things are different.
