A defender kicks the ball up and heads it back to the goalkeeper. What should the refree do?

The defender is cautioned for using a deliberate trick to circumvent Law 12.

Stop play. Caution the defender who kicked the ball and award an indirect free kick to the opponents at the place where the goalkeeper touched the ball with his hands.

This is considered circumventing law 12 and he is cautioned. Restart is an IFK to opponents at spot where player was when he flicked the ball up.
