Question Number: 17992Law 11 - Offside 11/24/2007RE: Competive Under 15 Joel of Fallbrook, California USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 17982 well then if the AR did call it wrong he was calling it wrong all game long Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Possible! Perception is what it is, be it correct or incorrect! An official learns their skills no different then a player learns the abilities to shoot straight or pass well. Recognition of fair or foul is dependant not only on what the referee sees but also what he knows about what he sees! One can hope to be better by making an effort to learn more Cheers.

View Referee Richard Dawson profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol If you get an AR who calls offside wrong, then your team has to adjust tactics. Don't try a tight offside trap if the AR is going to miss it and let the attackers through every time. On offense, don't try to squeeze the last inch of onside territory before making your breakaway. Maybe for this game you'll have to wait not until the ball is kicked, but until it passes you. That's wrong, but it's better than having calls made against you all game long.
After the game see if you can talk to the center about your concerns. If not, then talk to the assignor or an instructor for the referees.
