Question Number: 18015

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 11/27/2007

RE: Classic Under 16

Bill Sayre of Greenwood, SC USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 17911

Follow up comment to the trick play corner kick: At a tournament this fall my AR and I observed one young lady kick the ball from the arc, then a teammate reach down and pick up the ball. The AR and I did a quick double-take "did I just see..." The flag and whistle were about simultaneous. Direct kick out for deliberate handling. I think they were trying for some sort of short corner or who knows what. The bench area was so quiet you could hear the crickets! ;o)

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Yep, when plays go bad, they really go bad. If this situation was indeed an attempt at a trick - it sounds like a pure brain fart. Sometimes you just can't figure out what they were thinking or trying to do.

Good you caught the foul play, but what happens if this same thing happens in the outfield at the taking of a free kick. One player moves the ball with her foot and the other positions the ball with her hand because she is taking the free kick? Hmmm....
