Question Number: 18047

League Specific 12/2/2007

RE: Adult

Mick Lawlor of Stoke on Trent , Staffs England asks...

Has the advancement of a free kick of 10yds due to dissent beeen resinded as it no longer is applied?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

It was tried as an experiment but has fallen from favour and was never implemented as actual policy within FIFA. I felt it had merit more so than the two referee system yet I see the two referee system being used but not the ten yard advancement go figure! Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Ben Mueller

Mr. Dawson gave a good explanation. Again, it was never a actual FIFA policy.

Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino

That was only an experiement at one time. While the experiment yielded some positive results, there was some considerable confusion and some new problems emerged, so the concept was scraped. Perhaps it will be reconsidered at some point, but for now the idea has been abandoned and it was never the law.
