Law 13 - Free Kicks 2/13/2008

RE: Under 18

bob pearson of bangkok, thailand asks...

What is the referees decision if a goal is scored direct (without touching another player) from an indirect free kick.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Bob,
an indirect free kick by law requires a touch by another player be he or she from either team . If a ball DIRECTLY enters the goal on an INDFK there is NO goal permitted the restart is a goal kick if it was the opponets goal and a corner kick if it was your own . Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

That would result in a goal kick unless you kicked it into your own goal in which case it would result in a corner kick

In that case imagine that the goal isn't there, and treat it the same as if it had gone out over the goal line. In most cases this means a goal kick, see the exception by ref Contarino.

Also note that if you kicked the ball directly into your own goal, after taking the IFK from within your own penalty area, the proper restart would be to retake the IFK.
