Joseph Mooney Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Ok. I'm baffled by the question. Perhaps someone else can make sense out of it. Is the question somehow asking that distance turns a penalty kick into an IFK or that if a foul is a certain distance away from the goal it becomes indirect? I'm stumped

View Referee Keith Contarino profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol The type of kick - direct or indirect - is determined by the offense, not by the distance from goal. The location on the field makes a difference when a direct free kick offense is committed by a team in it's own penalty area, in which case it becomes a penalty kick.

View Referee Gary Voshol profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer If an indirect free kick is awarded the attack within their opponent's goal area is placed on the long line of the goal area nearest the point of the infraction. This means it is 5,5 metres from the goal line.
