Question Number: 1980

Law 3 - Number of Players

RE: div 1 Under 11

paul english of Ottawa, Ontario Canada asks...

When play has been called for an injury. Is the opposing team able to perform subs? And is the coach allowed to call his team over to the side lines (telling them to remain on the field) and coach them on their next play?..thanks

Answer provided by Referee Victor Matheson

The ability to substsitute varies from league to league. In youth leagues in the U.S., a team is allowed to substitute as many players as they wish on an opponent's injury. In high school and college soccer a team is allowed to substitute one player if the injured player on the opposing team decides to take a substitute. As for coaching from the sidelines, this is perfectly acceptable.

Official US Soccer youth policy is subs at any stoppage but regions still modify this so check with local authorities
