Question Number: 20657Law 4 - Players Equipment 12/10/2008RE: High School katie eckelman of braodview heights , ohio usa asks...This question is a follow up to question 16211 is there a certain type or brand of wrist brace that has been approved for soccer games? i have a players dad asking me if i know anything to help them - their daughter broke her wrist and wants to keep playing 'Do you know of any brand of wrist braces a player can wear that a referee will permit?' was his question to me thanks Katie Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney First the bad news - it is always up to the referee on the game that day to decide whether a brace is legal for play or not. Now a question - if she broke her wrist, why isn't there a cast on it? Casts are (generally) allowed in high school, if padded and a doctor's note is on site allowing her to play AND (big and) the referee determines it is safe for her to play. The referee can change this opinion at any time in the game if it becomes apparent the player is a danger to themselves or anyone else with the cast. Lastly, the good news. Braces of that type are generally allowed if made of the appropriate materials, and they are covered with the appropriate covering. You'll need to check your state's HS playing rules to be sure what is or is not allowed.

That said how sure are you it is a good idea to play a contact sport where the hands are used to brace for impact? Cheers
