View Referee Keith Contarino profileAnswer provided by Referee Steve Montanino Yes. Any free kick/goal kick must be kicked directly beyond the penalty area into the field for it to be considered in play. It must do this without touching any other player until it is in play. The opposing team may not enter the penalty area until the ball is in play either.
