Question Number: 21322Law 7 - Match Duration 5/12/2009RE: rec Under 15 Kevin of Des Moines, Iowa USA asks...At the end of the game (or half) when the time has run out and the whistle has blown, if a shot is in the air at the time and goes into the goal does it count? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney That works in basketball, but not in the world's game of soccer/football.
In order for a goal to be scored, it has to go between the goalposts and under the crossbar, while the ball is in play, provided no infringements by the team occur prior to the ball entering the goal.
When the referee's whistle sounds, the ball is no longer in play. If it is no longer in play, it cannot score.
