Question Number: 21896Law 13 - Free Kicks 9/6/2009RE: Competitive Adult Ron Judd of Boston, MA United States asks...Law 13: what is the restart if an IDFK is taken, when the kicker - kicks the ball, the ball moves (thus in play), but does not touch any other player before going over a boundary line? Basically, the IDFK goes straight out of bounds? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Over the touchline, it's a throw-in for the opponents. Over the opponent's goal line, it's a goal kick; over your own goal line it's a corner kick. Ron, if you are a referee, I'd suggest you refuse any assignments until you study the Laws. Several of these questions are basic stuff covered in beginning Grade 9 classes.

Of course your dfk into your opponet's goal is a goal! IF your indfk or even a dfk goes directly into your own goal or over your goal line it is a a corner kick for the opposition! IF the indfk or dfk goes directly over either the touchline it is a throw in for the opposition! Cheers

We know if the ball leaves the field last touched by a red player the ball will next belong to the blue team for a restart. The restart depends on where the ball exited the field. If it exits the field over a touchline (either one), the throw-in is for the blue team at the spot where it left the field (last touched by red). If it exits the field over red's goal line (last touched by red) it is a corner kick for blue. The fact that it was an IDFK that sent the ball off the field is irrelevant to the restart - what matters is who touched it last and where it went out. If it exits over blue's goal line last touched by red, then it is a goal kick for blue's team.
