Question Number: 22961Law 7 - Match Duration 3/18/2010RE: Under 11 cameron of bristol, england asks...if the ref blows the whistle for end of game ,does the match end after or before he blows the whistle Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Cameron The game ends when the the referee decides that time has fully expired. That decision is conveyed with the whistle. It would only make a difference in a goal scoring situation. So let's say the ball was in flight from a corner kick and the referee blew his whistle to end play then no goal could be scored even if the ball went over the goal line.

The referee decided when that moment was; the whistle was an announcement of that decision. For all practical purposes, the sound and the end of the match happen simultaneously.
