Question Number: 33479Law 6 - The Other Match Oficials 6/25/2019RE: Rec/Competitive Under 15 Scott Cooper of Allen, TX US asks...I'm watching world cup, and, not seeing the AR move to where the penalty area line intersects the goal line on a PK. I didn't find that changing in the briefs on 19/20 changes, but, it may not have been a complete change list. You can see an example clearly on 1st PK for US vs Spain. Anyone help a newer ref understand this one, deeply appreciated. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Scott In this tournament the penalty kick AR decisions during the game are being monitored by VAR and technology. Each referee is equipped with a Goal Scored watch which alerts the referee when the ball fully crosses the goal line. VAR is monitoring goalkeeper encroachment so there is no need for ARs to be in the traditional AR position. However in KFTPM the ARs assume the traditional position. Also for the remainder of the WC the mandatory caution for GKs has been relaxed based on the VAR decisions taken so far. http://theifab.com/news/temporary-dispensation-related-to-cautions-for-goalkeeper-encroachment-during-kicks-from-the-penalty-mark-at-the-fifa-womens-world-cup-2019?fbclid=IwAR3CQ2MNqiFtcg8BHzzYPlHKnACS_BMJ-Knq8dywv9G5H_rUBxCQ-hfwEGE
I suspect FIFA feared multiple red cards on encroachment in KFTPM
