Question Number: 35894League Specific 3/22/2025RE: PREMIER (RTD) Professional ISHIAKU. IBRAHIM of LOKOJA, KOGI NIGERIA asks...GOOD EVENING/DAY. SORRY MY QUESTION IS NOT ABOUT DECISION MAKING IN OFFIATING BUT REGARDS FOOTBALL AND OFFICIATING. IN A STATE WHERE THERE ARE REFEREE COUNCIL AND FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (FA) REFEREES APPOINTMENT COMMITTEE. WHICH OF THESE BODY IS INCHARGE OF MAKING APPOINTMENT FOR REFEREES WHEN THERE ARE F.A ORGANIZE COMPETITION? THANK YOU, I WANT TO LEARN. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Ishiaku Many Leagues / Competitions have an appointment officer or a match manager who appoints referees to games. Any committee that is there usually only gets involved in agreeing say officials for finals or if some issue has arisen and it needs a group decision. The committee may also decide promotions and demotions from the senior group of referees based on performances and observations.
As Referee Grove points out it does vary among associations.

So I don't really feel it's possible to give a "one-size-fits-all" answer to this question. Every country will arrange things slightly differently.
