Question Number: 12033

League Specific 1/6/2006

RE: REC Under 14

DAVID SLEEZER of SIERRA VISTA, ARIZONA USA asks...

OUR GAME ENDED IN A TIE WE WENT OT 2 10 MIN OVERTIME PERIODS ABOUT 6 MINUTES INTO THE FIRST PERIOD WE SCORED AND 2 MINUTES LATER THE LIGHTS WENT OUT WHAT IS THE COURSE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN. I STATED IT SHOULD BE FINAL AND WE WIN OR IT SHOULD BE RESUMED THE NEXT NIGHT AT THE POINT WHERE THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. OTHER PEOPLE SAID WE SHOULD LOSE OUR GOAL AND RESTART THE 2 10 MIN OVERTIME PERIODS WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS SITUATION
THANK YOU
DAVID SLEEZER COACH

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI david,
my take is of no consequence only your association will decide this. The referee should report the lights as the reason for abandonment. Hopefully you waited a few minutes to see if they could be brought back on as time could extend to cover a temporary situation.
Some leagues will say if a match is taken to a certain point the result could stand, others might insist the whole game be replayed. Best advice cross your fingers but keep the team ready to go. Cheers PS I read my colleague REf Marco answer and his perception as needing a result is spot on better tie up the boots

Answer provided by Referee Nathan Lacy

Agreed. We write the report and the league decides. And, as always, use some common sense in determining how long to wait before deciding to leave. All the best,
