Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 4/22/2007

RE: Competetive Under 18

Paola Morneau of Bloomingdale, New Jersey USA asks...

There is lose ball in Team A's defensive end. Team A's goalkeeper comes out of the penalty area intending to kick the ball away.

A defender for Team A reaches the ball first and deliberately kicks it back to his keeper.

The keeper receives the ball with his feet, dribbles back into the penalty area and picks up the ball with his hands.

Foul or no foul?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

It is an IFK foul. Law 12 says so, when the goalkeeper "touches the ball with his hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him by a team-mate". You said deliberately kicked, you said goalkeeper uses hands. Whistle and IFK inbound from the spot where the goalkeeper touched it, unless within the goal area, then the placement is on the nearest point on the 6-yard line.
