Question Number: 15491Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/15/2007RE: Comp Under 13 Kevin Gillis of orlando, fl USA asks...As a coach, how can you recognize which fouls or misconduct are indicated by the referee inside the box?
Under what circumstances would an INDFK be awarded inside the 18?
I have seen this twice in games, and after conferring with the referee after both events, I get different answers.
I was under the impression that only misconduct inside the box was awarded an INDFK, fouls or handling results in a PK. Help? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer There are a number of infractions that result in indirect free kicks in or out of the penalty area. They are listed in Law 12 as Indirect Free Kick Offences. Offside results in an indirect free kick, a second touch happening inside the penalty area, by the same player after a corner kick, throw-in or a free kick. As a coach on the touchline it really makes little difference whether it is direct, a penalty kick, or indirect. The referee usually gets it sorted out.

Playing in a dangerous manner or impeding the progress of an oponnent are both fouls for which the proper restart is an indirect free kick, as is offside or any keeper handling offences inside his own penalty area.
