Question Number: 15871Law 14 - Penalty kick 6/23/2007RE: tournament Under 13 Rick of medicine hat, alberta canada asks...A PK kick is taken before the ref blows the whistle, keeper saves the shot.PK shooter is made to take shot again and subsequently scores. should have the first attempt have counted ? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Rick, technically if the go ahead signal is not given a retake is correct. If I was to do so there would be a caution show a yellow card attached. Personally I am sure I must of signalled after all he did think he could shoot, keeper saves, play on! Cheers

View Referee Keith Contarino profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer A penalty requires a signal before the kicker may proceed. That signal is customarily the whistle. If the kicker takes the kick before the whistle he shall be warned and upon repetition be cautioned. Regardless the outcome the kick will be retaken. That's the Law.
The next way of doing things is going to loose you points on an assessment:
Realistically the kicker was ready, he did kick it, right? The keeper was ready, he did save the shot, right? Cool, I signaled, end of story.
Regards,
