Question Number: 15989

Law 4 - Players Equipment 7/10/2007

RE: Rec Under 11

Chris of Sydney, NSW Australia asks...

This question is a follow up to question 15262

As a follow up comment to the question as to whether a wedding ring is actually dangerous, being smooth and possibly taped over, Paulo Diogo in the Swiss league lost his finger when he caught his wedding ring on a fence while celebrating a goal.

I also had a team mate wear a wedding ring to training. When he broke his finger in a simple fall it swelled up and the ring had to be sawn off by doctors to treat the finger.

Please be aware that the danger does not always come from sharp edges. The source of the danger may not always be obvious. FIFA is quite rightly awake to this - so no jewelery, for any reason, ever!

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Chris,
point taken, seen a toe ring as well suffer similar fate nipple and belly rings ripped and bleeding as well. Things a referee can not look for but will notice if the blood seeps through the jersey or as in the toe broken the cries of pain when the sock comes off!!
Cheers
