Question Number: 16724Other 9/16/2007RE: JV Soccer Under 17 Darlene lawrence of Winnipeg manitoba, Canada asks...My daughter went to try outs for soccer, and was not allowed to try out because she cannot put her hair in a ponytail, she has pretty short hair as it is, so very difficult to put in a pony tail without using several bobbypins or barretts. She was told that all the girls have to look the same. I find this very unfair, is it a rule that hair must pinned up ? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney I've never seen a rule like that in any form of soccer - indoor, outdoor, high school, college or the game the world plays. Dance teams maybe, but not sports teams. You might wish to visit with the coach and/or the principal of the school.

Total BS from god knows what source! Do not let this pass unscathed! Cheers

This is infinite wisdom winning out over thinking and good judgement, again. If her skills are sufficient to place her on the squad and there is still room then the length of her hair, the colour of her skin, the number of teeth she has and whether or not her folks drive an Edsel should have no bearing on the decision.
Your use of brute force up to and including WMD's is hereby authorised. Should what you do claim the precious careers of the buffoons thinking this one up, so be it and good riddance.
Regards,

They all have to look alike? I presume that means no persons of color need apply? Ridiculous.

I would definitely seek out the coach/athletic director/principal on this one. And, I'd not go by myself either. Take a friend or significant other along with you as a second set of eyes and ears.
