Question Number: 18538Law 13 - Free Kicks 3/13/2008RE: competitive Under 16 Dean Burgess of Chicopee, MA USA asks...Regarding law 13. An indirect kick is awarded. Player A runs up to the ball, places foot on the ball and yells to coach, "Hey Coach, do you want me to take the kick?" Then while shouting, moves the ball in a manner that could be deemed as a kick, questionable, but does qualify. The ball moves and player B runs up and shoots the ball and scores. Where would you stand on this call? Is the goal good? Or would you call this trickery to circumvent Law 13? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino I suppose I would have to see it and decide if the ball was kicked or not. If the referee thinks the ball is kicked then the play is fine. If the referee does not think that it was a kick then the proper restart is a goal kick.
