Question Number: 19402Law 13 - Free Kicks 6/16/2008RE: Rec Under 16 Michael of New Hyde Park, NY USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 19374 In the poster's question I read it that a player other than the keeper took the IFK and passed it to the keeper, NOT the keeper taking the IFK, and the keeper then kicking the ball into the net. IF this was the case and the IFK was taken from outside the penalty area wouldn't it be a goal? If from within the pa, then a re-take, correct? Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Keeper took an "air shot". To me that means he tried to kick the ball but only got air. Since he never touched the ball there can be no own goal regardless of where the ball was kicked from. If as you suggest, the restart took place outside the penalty area and the keeper kicked the ball into his own net, this would be an own goal. If from within the PA, a retake as you state.
