Question Number: 12176

Law 4 - Players Equipment 2/10/2006

RE: Premier Under 16

Eric of Poughkeepsie, New York U.S.A asks...

I play in a North East Regional Premier League (NERP), US Club Soccer, and for my varsity high school team, and I was wondering, are metal, removable soft ground cleats allowed if they are not sharp or harmful to anyone on the field, what are the rules regarding this situation?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

The referee must decide if any cleat is safe or not. Screw in cleats are allowed most everywhere I know of. Make sure there is no local regulation forbidding them.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Eric,
I agree with Ref Contarino check local ordances but generally a referee decision. I know on certain artifical turf fields some schools demand specific footwear so as not to rip the material.
Cheers
