Question Number: 12299

Character, Attitude and Control 3/5/2006

RE: Rec Under 13

Andrew of Toronto, Ontario Canada asks...

I was recently in attendence at a game where on of the coaches was audibly directing various curses at the opposing team and coach. About 65 minutes into the game, the referee finally tired of this. He came over, showed the coach the red card and ordered him to leave the stadium. Can the referee card and/or order a coach to leave for use of innappropriate language?

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

While he may NOT show a coach a card, he may and should dismiss him from the field of play if he's acting in an unprofessional and irresponsible manner. I'm suprised thye referee waited 65 minutes. Should have happened much sooner.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Normally coaches are not to see a card. They may be expelled for not acting in a responsible manner. One wonders why the referee had so much patience...

Regards,
