Question Number: 12393Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 3/19/2006RE: Junior Varsity High School Bob Patterson of Douglas, Georgia USA asks...A shot was definitly going into the goal. The opposing team defender, not the goalie, stopped the ball from going in the goal with his hands. Should this not be an automatic given goal???? We were not given an automatic goal, we were given a penalty kick, is this correct for High School soccer????? Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Hi Bob. Nope. Can't give a goal unless the ball crosses all the line bewteen the posts and under the bar. That said, the punishment for what the player did is huge. He should be sent off the field and shown the red card for denying a goal by deliberately handling the ball, and a penalty kick should have been awarded.
