Question Number: 12488Character, Attitude and Control 4/4/2006RE: select Under 17 Teia of Tacoma, WA USA asks...If there is someone watching the game and he is using foul language can the referee kick that person off the field? Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino The referee has no authority over spectators. However, he may stop or abandon a game if conditions warrant it. If a referee hears foul language and it's coming from fans of one team, he can go to the coach of that team and tell him/her that he wants the language stopped or the spectator removed before he'll restart the game. Most spectators don't know we have no authority over them and will usually behave or leave if we tell them to but that's not the proper way to approach this problem.
