Question Number: 13267

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 7/3/2006

RE: rec Adult

alex of rich, ontario canada asks...

This question is a follow up to question 13216

The restrictions on the options are:-
1. I cannot allow a green player to dress in red as the league only allows players registered for a team to play for that team.
2. I cannot abandon the game as both teams satisfy the minimum 7 players requirement and there is nothing in LOTG dictating who a player should play against on the field. I suggested to green team that they can choose to play only 9 players. However, they prefer to play 11 as they do not want to have 7 players waiting to be substitue instead of 5.
3. I can see how to deal with cautionable/dismissal offences situation. My problem is how to handle petty fouls such as minor infringement related to pushing, holding, obstructions, etc. DFK is not applicable. IDFK only applies if it is a cautionable offence. I personally find it diffcult to yellow card the players by applying the USB rule for these petty fouls.

To sum up the above, I think I was stuck in a situation which I do not how to handle with my understanding to the LOTG.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

It sounds like the league has forced the referee to make decisions as they desire not how the Laws demand. If you accept assignments in that league then you must accept their way of doing things. Go with the flow and bite your tongue. The alternative is seek assignment elsewhere...

Regards,

I agree. You can always go elsewhere. Find a new league or a new assignor to get games through if it is not the right fit for you.

As do I. I love the League I work for but if they put me into these types of situations on a regular basis I'd move on. You did the best you could with a bad situation
