Question Number: 13513

Law 1- The Field 8/18/2006

RE: Other

ziad of beirut, beirut lebanon asks...

Hi, Ihave 2 questions:
1- The goal area is for what? i mean what is the purpose of the goal area in front of the goal line? i think it's called the 6 meters area.

2- can the players of a team wear a shirt and a "short" of the same color?

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Question 1, the goal area used to be a safe area for the keeper, he could not be charged inside his goal area, outside he was fair game. It is also used to denote the area a free kick is taken if an infraction happens within it or a goal kick is awarded.

Question 2, Law 4 does not mention color, save the keeper's kit and it must be different than the players and referees.

Regards,

1. 2 applicaitons and maybe more: ball on goal kick can be placed anywhere in the goal area and IFK for the attackers in goal area gets taken on top of goal area line closester to where infraction occurred.
